Why You Shouldn’t Buy Knock-Off Toothpaste

Some things should not be bought at the dollar store.

According to a report by Dallas TV station KXAS, some dollar stores sell toothpastes that are expired or not approved by the American Dental Association. Many are from foreign markets, such as South Africa, where fluoride levels can be 10 times higher than in American brands. Dr. Charles Wakefield of Baylor College of Dentistry commented, “I really don’t know how these are legally in stores.” If you’re determined to get those bargains, make sure to check the expiration date and that it was approved by the ADA or the CDC (our Canadian dental neighbors). But really, it’s probably easier and safer to just buy your toothpaste somewhere else.
