Who needs at least 2 years of experience when you’ve been to Australia?

Are you the type of person who enjoys seeing the world and being exposed to different cultures, foods and ideas? If so, you’re part of an elite group that makes you more desirable to employers than your non-traveling counterparts.

According to a study published by Kaplan, Inc., if you studied abroad while in college, you have a higher chance of being hired within six months of graduating school than your counterparts who chose not to leave the country.

If you think about it, this makes total sense. Traveling and living abroad makes you grow up super quickly. In a foreign culture, you’re learning to navigate a new place and overcome language barriers on your own. You’re continuously learning, which is an excellent quality to have—and one that ultimately may make you more marketable to employers.

‘What a Girl Wants’

This quality is what we call a “growth mindset.” Besides looking at technical skills, employers look for employees who have that growth mindset because it assures them the candidate isn’t just a one-trick pony. Growth-minded employees constantly work to improve their talents instead of just staying content with the skills they already know. The attitude of challenging yourself to reach new goals is a quality bosses look for, especially in long-term employees.

Start packing your bags and let your future employer know you’re DTG (down to grow)!
