It offers specific recommendations based on your hydration levels throughout the day.
Tracking your water intake is one of those tasks supposedly made easier by mantras (like the 8x8 rule: drink eight 8-oz. glasses of water each day), motivational bottles, or apps, but the real problem is that no one can agree on how much water you should be drinking in the first place. A Google search tells you to take into account a number of factors, like age, sex, activity level and even where you live, to determine how much water you need to drink. In reality, though, your hydration needs change every day. Even drinking when you’re thirsty is a unreliable trigger, since many people mistake thirst for hunger—or don’t recognize it at all. So what’s a dehydrated person to do? The LVL band is a hydration tracker that uses LED light technology to monitor your body’s hydration levels, along with your heart rate, sleep cycles and activity levels. Dr. Dustin Freckleton created it after he suffered a dehydration-related stroke while he was in medical school. His team developed new technology that literally goes deeper than other trackers. It uses near infrared light and multiple wavelength signals, while other popular trackers rely on greenlight technologies that don’t penetrate as deeply into the body, and are therefore, less accurate. The LED technology of the LVL band penetrates 10 times deeper and provides more precise readings, which are instantly reported to the partner mobile app. Throughout the day, the band vibrates to notify the wearer when their hydration levels are getting low and how much water they should drink. Freckleton says that as the band learns your patterns of sleep and activity, it can offer specific recommendations for peak hydration before bed or before workouts. Intense testing of the bands on over 250 athletes shows the results are on par with the accuracy of military and professional first-responder standards. The programmed algorithm offers the wearer suggestions of how much water to drink in order to improve performance in terms of athleticism, sleep and productivity. So not only will you be fully hydrated, you’ll also sleep better, have more energy for workouts, eat less and maintain overall better moods—all thanks to H2O.✕
