The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening. The series is a satirical depiction of a middle class American lifestyle epitomized by the Simpson family.
However, you may not realize just how much The Simpsons have influenced pop-culture. While everyone tends to recognize the celebrity cameos and timely political jokes, here is a list of 10 items that owe The Simpsons a little hat-tip.
1. Auto-correct, the iPhone's keyboard and the original iPod design.
Apple's shady autocorrect was actually pointed out in Season 6's "Lisa on Ice." Also, the early iPod design looks an awful lot like an electronic device from Season 8's episode, "Bart After Dark."
2. "Meh."
While not the first time the word was ever used, Bart and Lisa are often credited with popularizing it on Season 6's "Sideshow Bob Roberts."
3. "Oh My God" by Usher.
On Season 14's, "Dude, Where's My Ranch," the Y101 Morning Showgram seems to have been the first to point out that Usher's song is essentially the same as Homer's questionable attempt to write a Christmas carol.
4. "The Hangover"'s plot.
In Season 10's "Viva Ned Flanders" you can see there are certainly quite a few bizarre shared elements, most randomly the inclusion of the "Mike Tyson" character who is named Drederick Tatum in "The Simpsons."
5. An actual scientific theory that universe is shaped like a donut.
In "They Saved Lisa's Brain" Stephen Hawking appeared in this episode and told Homer: "Your theory of a donut-shaped universe is intriguing, Homer. I may have to steal it."
6. Farmville.
Season 9 features an episode titled "Bart Carny," whereby the children of Springfield somehow fall in love with the monotonous act of simulating repetitive, mindless labor...good luck with that ever catching on.
7. Goodburger's breakfast burger in New York.
Even thought it's no longer available, Goodburger used to have a steak and egg burger that was very reminiscent of the "Good Morning Burger" Homer drooled over in 1992's "Bart's Friend Falls In Love."
8. 3-D Printing.
Although Marge considers it 'magic' in Season 16's "Future-Drama," 3-D printing is now a very real part of reality.
9. Miley Cyrus's "Wrecking Ball."
In 2007's "The Simpson's Movie," Homer can be spotted making his entrance via wrecking ball.
10. Hamburger Earmuffs.
When Josh Gates of the SyFy Channel was shipped a pair of these by amazon, instead of the T-shirt he tried to order, he posted the story, which went viral. Many who responded cited these headphones found in Season 10's "The Wizard Of Evergreen Terrace."
EXTRA: Russia's annexation of Crimea.
In, "Simpson Tide," Season 9, Homer accidentally starts a Cold War and Russia reveals the Soviet Union actually never went away.
