These humongous canines are truly gentle giants. I’m already in love with them.
This is the Leonberger.
They’re a huge dog breed that originates from Germany.
These massive pets are a cross between a St. Bernard, a Pyrenean Mountain Dog and a Newfoundland.
According to urban legend, these dogs were bred to resemble a lion which is featured on the crest of the town they originated from: Leonberg, Germany.
But it’s obvious that these dogs are way more lovable than a terrifying lion.
However, due to World War I & II, they were almost wiped out and after World War II there were only 8 surviving Leonbergers.
So now, all living Leonbergers are actually descendants of those 8 dogs, which means that they’re severely inbred.
But when it comes to snuggling up with someone, they can’t be beat!
Despite their massive size (most males grow to about 170lbs.) they’re the most gentle dogs you could have.
Not to mention, they’re great with kids!
Their two coats of fur guarantee that they’ll be able to rescue you in snowy conditions, too!
...Or if you’re just looking for a sled dog.
It’s really hard to believe that these dogs with their intimidating sizes could be so adorably cuddly.
So, if you’re in the market for a new majestic and fluffy addition to your family the the Leonberger is the dog for you.
