This is how one company made it possible for a city to feed its homeless animals AND fight waste at the same time!
The city of Istanbul is home to over 150,000 stray animals.
In 2012, a law was passed that would remove the stray animals from the cities, which meant that the likelihood of their survival outside of the city was very low.
Before this happened, one company stepped up to find a way to protect these animals from starvation and increase their rate of survival. Their solution also provided a way for residents to protect the environment, while helping out the stray cats and dogs.
Thus, kibble vending machines were placed around the city. Not to mention, it doubles as a recycling receptacle.
These devices were placed throughout parks and busy streets in Istanbul, where it encouraged people to dispose of their plastic items in exchange for dispensing a handful of food into pet bowls below the receptacle.
The machine even comes with a water bowl, so that people can pour their remaining fresh water into bowls for strays to drink.
The government actually allows these machines to be placed throughout the city because the developers made a promise it would be at no extra cost to them.
Each machine is purchased with money made from recycling the water bottles. Basically, they’re self-sufficient.
So finally, stray animals in the city of Istanbul aren’t forced to starve to death or die of dehydration…
And in the process, everyone is doing their job in taking care of the amazing environment we live in.
