BEWARE: If you wear your contacts for too long, this could totally happen to you!
Lian Kao, a Taiwanese college student, recently lost her eye sight after not taking her contacts out for 6+ months.
The single-cell organisms, called amoeba, literally ate away her pupil!
Doctors stated that the 23 year old student left her contacts in at all times, even during swimming!
Apparently, not taking your contacts out provides the perfect environment for the development of these organisms.
According to Ophthalmologist Wu Jian-Lian, “A shortage of oxygen can destroy the surface of the epithelial tissue, creating tiny wounds into which the bacteria can easily infect, spreading to the rest of the eye and providing a perfect breeding ground.â€
So the moral of the story? Don't forget to take out your damn contacts!
