The New World Mall was abandoned in 1997 and basically left to rot. Then in 1999 a fire burned the roof off. Even after it's been abandoned and partially burned, the mall is still full of life.
The mall is located in Bangkok, Thailand and has been abandoned since 1997.
In 1999 there was a fire that destroyed the buildings roof causing the bottom floor of the mall to flood with rain water.
The water at the bottom of the mall brought the big problem of mosquitoes. In order to defend against the annoying bug, the local people brought koi fish to the water.
The koi fish have helped control the mosquitoes and taken on a huge life of their own.
At town markets people are able to buy food to give to the koi fish, but nothing else is allowed to be thrown into the water.
The bottom floor of this old used-to-be mall is now a pond for a fish that has helped the local people living around here.
It's crazy to think how this all began, but it seems to have worked out.
