JK Rowling just posted a short Harry Potter story she wrote for the Pottermore website, and it’s pretty amazing.
The story is "written" by Rita Skeeter. In her gossip column, she writes about the trio as they attend the Quidditch World Cup finals.
Rita hasn't really lost her bitchy tone (win) and this story is totally worth reading.
Seriously. It’s awesome. Just in case you are TRULY pressed for time though, or need some more convincing, here are the top 12 things we learned about the Potter Universe from this new story.
1. The gang became huge celebrities in the magical world.
Not a huge surprise to see that defeating the world's most powerful dark wizard would turn Harry, Ron and Hermione (and the rest of Dumbledore's Army) into instant celebrities.
2. Harry's still rocking the round glasses.
The now 34-year-old Auror hasn't really changed up his style in the 17 years since the Battle of Hogwarts. Quips Rita Skeeter, "he continues to wear the distinctive round glasses that some might say are better suited to a style-deficient twelve-year-old." Stay snarky, Rita.
3. Harry has a mysterious new scar.
This is probably the most titillating thing we learned today. Harry has a nasty cut over his right cheekbone and we know nothing about how he got it. Rita was shut out by the Ministry of Magic as they do not comment on the secret work of the Auror department. Is this opening the door for more Harry Potter stories?
4. Ginny works for the Daily Prophet and has been covering the Quidditch World Cup.
Ms. Skeeter is pretty bitter about this one: "The jury is out on whether she really had the talent or experience to be sent to the Quidditch World Cup (jury's back in - no!!!)" Well played, Rita. WELL PLAYED.
5. Viktor Krum and Harry Potter are still pretty chummy.
One can only imagine how Ron feels about this lingering friendship…
6. Ron Weasley quit the Ministry of Magic to help George run Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.
Who knew Ron was management material? They recently expanded to Orlando, so he must be doing something right.
7. Hermione is on a meteoric rise in the Ministry of Magic.
Who didn't see this one coming? Apparently she rose pretty quickly to become Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. She's apparently poised to go even higher. Could she become the Minister at some point?
8. ... But she still has her terrible hair.
At least in the book universe.
9. Neville still loves Herbology and is a popular teacher at Hogwarts, but he may be an alcoholic.
Apparently he lived above the Leaky Cauldron for a while with his wife Hannah. Rita Skeeter speculates that they both love Firewhisky more than they should.
10. Luna Lovegood got married and had twins!
Out of everything that Rowling revealed today, I want her to expand on this romance and family more than anything else. Can you even imagine the offspring of Luna…!?
11. Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour are still happily married.
As far as the rest of the Weasleys, Charlie is still a dragon wrangler and suspiciously single and Percy became the Head of the Department of Transportations (all complaints about the Floo Network go to him)
12. We want more Harry Potter.
JK Rowling just gave the world an epic tease of what an adult Harry Potter story could be like. However, she says she has no plans to write any more. Say it ain't so!
