'Making A Murderer's' Brendan Dassey Could Be Out Of Jail In Just 90 Days
Will Steven Avery be next?
Well, well, well—it looks like one of the subjects of Netflix's docu-series "Making A Murderer" is finally seeing some justice. On Aug. 12, a federal judge overturned Steven Avery's nephew Brendan Dassey's conviction in Teresa Halbach's murder, according to Variety. Dassey was sentenced to 41 years of prison for first-degree intentional homicide, second-degree sexual assault, and mutilation of a corpse—but if all goes smoothly, he could be a free man in just 90 days.

Anyone who watched "Making A Murderer" knows that his news is BONKERS. Avery and Dassey's story was covered in the 10-episode Netflix series, which documented the murder conviction. Even though Brendan was 17 at the time of the trial, he was both tried and sentenced as an adult, and his case appeared to be handled in so many horrendous ways. Not only was he interrogated four times over a two day period without a parent or attorney present, but he also was forced into saying certain things and giving a false confession. Perhaps the biggest draw of the show is how it questions the authenticity of the trial, as police appeared to plant evidence to convict Avery.

Dassey isn't 100% free yet, but he's damn close. According to court documents, he will be "released from custody unless, within 90 days of the date of this decision, the State initiates proceedings to retry him." With news like this, perhaps Avery will be next, as he continues to appeal his conviction. Our fingers are crossed.
