The Most Head-Turning Fashion At The Olympic Opening Ceremony
The Olympic Opening Ceremony was a low-key runway.
The 2016 Olympics kicked off in Rio de Janeiro on Aug 6, with over 200 nations uniting for the Opening Ceremony of the games. Of course, the Olympics are an athletic competition, but it's also an unofficial fashion competition, too— especially when you have supermodels like Gisele Bündchen and hunky shirtless dudes doused in baby oil supporting their countries. (Yes, that was really a thing.)
These are some of the most standout outfits from the Olympics Opening Ceremony this year.
1. Tonga
Meet your new crush: taekwondo competitor Pita Taufatofua, who will now be known as the oiled-up shirtless hunk who strutted his bod bearing a flag for his country. Hot damnnnn.
2. Indonesia
Indonesia had one of the more elaborate outfits of the bunch—just look at those gold hats (crowns?) and fancy robes next to the traditional red and white outfits.
3. Columbia
Nothing like pulling fashion inspo from Paddington Bear—Columbia, you're killin' it.
4. South Africa
Watch these green and yellow jumpsuits being the next big fashion trend.
5. China
The red suits with the colorful ties are definitely something.
6. Australia
They looked like airplane stewardesses from the 1960s, yes?
7. Jamaica
The sporty yellow jackets with pops of green are ah-mazing.
8. Germany
No offense to Germany, but WTF were they thinking? Silver windbreakers and pencil skirts?
9. Great Britain
This ensemble is so classic Great Britain that it would be weird if they wore anything else.
10. Croatia
Croatia is ready for the race track.
11. Canada
Of course Canada would have cool red blazers with a giant maple leaf on the back. Proof that sometimes simple is better.
12. Burundi
These gorgeous, classic gowns made a powerful statement.
13. Cook Islands
The green floral print dresses paired with floral crowns just makes us want to jet to a tropical island ASAP.
14. Sierra Leone
Stripes are making their way into the fashion scene again, and clearly Sierra Leone knows what's up.
15. Italy
Because all-black is timeless, especially when the outfit is designed by Armani.
16. Aruba
This looks like a bad tourist ad for a suspiciously low-price, all-inclusive Caribbean trip.
17. Gisele Bundchen's final walk
Representing her home country of Brazil, Gisele made her final appearance on the catwalk. The 36-year-old was met with tons of cheers from the crowd, as the international supermodel is recognized (and loved) universally. Talk about going out with a bang.
