Recently a police officer in Utah quit his job rather than have to ride at the front of the Pride Parade—he was afraid to appear too pro-gay. In Washington D.C., however, one incredible cop took a different approach. He used the local parade as an opportunity to demonstrate his own pride, not scared at all of the Westboro Baptist protestors standing right behind him.
D.J. Stalter is an officer with the Arlington County Police Department.
Unlike the Utah officer, Stalter took no issue with working the Pride parade.
This is a photo of Stalter with his boyfriend, Mark Raimondo.
Stalter and Raimondo shared a kiss during the parade, staging the Kodak moment so that the Westboro Baptist protesters were visible in the background.
The Westboro Baptists quote-tweeted a remark from the Drudge Report and used it to tweet out a photo of the couple, trying to demean them, but it didn't seem to bother the two men at all.
Wrote Raimondo: "How sweet of WBC to tweet my picture!"
Raimondo had a similar photo of him and his man in uniform, which he proudly shared on Instagram.
But unlike the protesters, the Instagram reaction was supportive and loving—the perfect way to embrace Pride!
