Katy Perry's New Song 'Rise' Will Make You Feel Like An Olympian
Katy's BACK.
It's an exciting day for KatyCats. We've been waiting a long time for new music from Katy Perry, and on July 14, the pop star quietly dropped her new single on Twitter. Of course, minutes after doing so, Twitter exploded with a bunch of overzealous fan reactions living for this big moment.
Katy is the queen of power anthems—just think "Roar" and "Part of Me"—and her new song will be your next pump-up jam you'll be playing on repeat. The Olympic-themed song is catchy, inspirational and showcases her insane vocal talent that makes us that much more excited for her new album.
Katy's new song "Rise" will be a huge part of the summer 2016 Olympics.
"Rise" will be the soundtrack to NBC's coverage of the Rio Games. Along with the song, Katy released a music video that revolves around the biggest star power of the Olympics. It pays tribute to runners, gymnasts and other athletes who work their hardest each day and inspire us to go the extra limit. The video shows footage of Michael Phelps, Missy Franklin and the four-time champion U.S. Women's Soccer Team. The music video will be played in over 20,000 movie theaters during the Olympics.
Katy says "Rise" was a song intended for "our world to unite."
"This is a song that's been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface," Katy said in a statement. "I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite. I know that together we can rise above the fear in our country, and around the world. I can t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together. I am honored that NBC Olympics has chosen to use it as an anthem before and during the Rio Games."
So, the video is great and incredibly inspirational. Seriously, even me, your quintessential lazy girl, feels like I could run a marathon listening to this song.
But aside from that, the song itself is phenomenal. If this is how Katy's album is going to sound, we're in for a big treat. Katy seems to slowly be graduating from bubblegum pop and focusing more on ballads with an edgier and mature feel.
I can't wait to find out what we get from Katy next.
