How Artists Around The World Are Responding To The Attack On Nice

When words are not enough...
On the night of July 14, a man drove a lorry truck into a crowd of people in Nice, France, killing at least 84 people and injuring over 200. The victims had gathered near the waterfront to enjoy fireworks in celebration of Bastille Day, a French national holiday similar to the Fourth of July. President Hollande has called the attack on Nice an act of terror—the third such event in France in the last 18 months.
As we continue parse through what we know and what we don't yet know, people around the world have shown a groundswell of grief, sympathy, and support for the victims and the French people as a whole. When words fail to express the complexity of such a loss, visual art can be even more meaningful, especially for a country that celebrates the power of political cartoons.
