Sabina Karlsson Is The Freckled, Plus-Size Badass You Need To Know
Bea-U-tiful.
Sabina Karlsson was told her size 6 body was "too big" for modeling.
Body positivity just got another female role model, and she's fierce AF.
Swedish badass beauty Sabina Karlsson started her modeling career at just four-years-old.
At 17, Sabina said a reoccurring pattern of being told she was too big by casting agents led to a series of unhealthy diets and a damaging exercise regime.
So, in 2010, Sabina decided to leave "straight size" modeling and become a plus-size model so she could fully embrace every aspect of her natural beauty—she's literal #GOALS because of it.
Sabina said her transition into the plus-size industry was a dream come true.
Sabina was able to embody confidence in her own skin, and she told Elle magazine that nothing has ever felt better.
"I didn't really know too much about the plus-size industry, so I was even surprised that you could be working full time as a plus size model. But to me, it was like my biggest wish had just come true. I was being successful in the body that I had, and I didn't have to work so hard to just be accepted. After a few years in the plus-size industry, I'm so glad. I would never want to go back," she said.
The change made Sabina embrace the parts of herself she once saw as "problem areas."
Sabina said a lot of the criticism that came from casting agents when she was in the "straight-size" industry revolved around her legs and thighs. Since she was characterized as "bottom heavy," she was never shot in shorts or skirts. But ever since entering the plus-size world, she's been dominating a variety of fashion trends.
"I never wore shorts as a straight size model. I would always wear a longer dress, and I would hide my legs. Now, I've started wearing shorts. I've actually started to embrace them. I love my thighs, and I would not want to have a thigh gap."
Uh, and did we mention she has some insanely gorgeous freckles?!
Sabina is natural beauty through and through, and her insanely stunning freckles are just another unique feature of the model's beauty.
She shares flawless photos of her freckles and curves on Instagram.
With over 19,000 followers, Sabina's beauty is taking the social media world by storm.
The fashion industry needs to take note that plus-size is no "trend."
Sabina knows that her body type and role in the fashion industry can't be chalked up as a trend with a shelf life.
"Some people, when I've gone to interviews, they've asked me, "What do you think of the plus size trend?" To me it's not really a "trend," not at all," she told Elle.
The model also said she thinks this shift from what one person's interpretation of beautiful is to what is natural should've happened a long time ago, but she also thinks that people are going to become more accepting of different body types as time goes on.
"That's how it starts, with designers and companies as long as they're doing it for the right reason and they're actually believing in what we believe in and when I say "we," I mean my colleagues and I."
Sabina's colleagues include the likes of Sports Illustrated model Ashley Graham and Lane Bryant model Tess Holiday.
Plus-size is big, bad, and fierce, and it's here to stay.
"It shouldn't just be for the marketing, like, "Let's book this girl and get some PR out of that." I don't think that's how it is though because I can totally see that there's a big ongoing change. We're here to stay."
Sabina, we couldn't agree more!
