We All Have Nipples, Let Female Celebs Show Theirs

by N/A, 9 years ago | 1 min read

Warning for big babies and perverts: nipples ahead.

Fashion Celebrities Feminism hollywood Non-Premium

The media might as well be run by a bunch of hormonal teenage boys.

More frequently than ever, I've been stumbling across news of celebrities and their nipples. Let me be more specific: I've been stumbling across "news" of celebrity women exposing their nipples, and it makes me really wish there was a face palm emoji for all the frustration I feel over it. Whether nips are out for a photo shoot, completely on accident or literally just for the hell of it, each time, it's a big effing deal that warrants a media shit storm.

Apparently, it calls for alarm bells going off all over the tabloids.

But seriously, with all the caps and exclamation marks, it's a little disappointing that there's not groundbreaking news. I'm sitting there waiting for the "And?" moment and I'm always let down.

Last week, Serena Williams was even body-shamed on social media because her nipples showed through her sports bra.

Yes, THAT Serena Williams. Tennis champ and Beyoncé squad member who just won Wimbledon and her 22nd grand slam title.

But of course, people had no chill about her nipples showing through her clothes.

No, no, no, no, no, NO.

AND, a few weeks ago, social media was blowing up because Kendall Jenner exposed her nipple ring in a sheer bodysuit.

Yes, of course she knew her top was see-through. This girl takes 5,000 selfies a day. Kenny must have woke up and decided she wanted to show off her nipple ring, which good for her. Leave ma' girl alone.

Whether you're Serena Williams, Kendall Jenner, the click-thirsty tabloid editors writing headlines about nipples, WE ALL HAVE THEM.

Nipples are a part of the human body, and the media is the one choosing to sexualize female nipples. We weren't born thinking that female nipples are sexy—it's a thought that's been cultivated by the media for years. And because we apparently haven't grown up as a society, this only encourages objectification of celebrity women.

When it comes to men's nipples though, it's completely different.

Notice the word "nipple" isn't in any of these headlines—that's because when men show their nipples, it's not a big deal. Instead, men are glorified for going shirtless and showing off their ripped bodies. People definitely don't sexualize the male body as much as the female body.

Even when a woman decides to pull a Biebs and flaunt her assets, she's slut-shamed by trolls.

Remember when Kim Kardashian broke the internet with that infamous mirror selfie with a censor bar across her chest? She was hit with a ton of criticism from people telling her to put on more clothes and cover up. But because she knows how to ignore haters, she posted another topless selfie with model Emily Ratajkowski.

Recently, Em was in the spotlight for her stunning nude shoot for Harper's Bazaar. Piers Morgan, however, tried to ruin her moment by tweeting at her to ask if he could buy her some clothes. Emily had a killer response that put him in his place, but this was upsetting to see because in her interview, she touched on how the female body should be celebrated.

"The world should not be exclusive of the ideal body," Emily told Harper's Bazaar. "It has to include all ideals, all bodies. The whole idea is that when Kim takes a nude selfie, she's just seeking attention—that's not the issue. A woman can be seeking attention and also making a statement."

So let's chill out about nipples and give everyone the same right to flaunt their body if they so choose.

I'm going to leave you with some final words from one of my favorite feminists, Miss Ariana Grande:

"If you're going to rave about how sexy a male artist looks with his shirt off, and a woman decides to get in her panties or show her boobies for a photo shoot, she needs to be treated with the same awe and admiration," Ariana told Billboard. "I will say it until I'm an old-ass lady with my tits out at Whole Foods. I'll be in the produce aisle, naked at 95, with a sensible ponytail, one strand of hair left on my head and a Chanel bow. Mark my words. See you there with my 95 dogs."
