The animal kingdom is full of beautiful species. Birds, however, take the crown for the most being the most beautiful and colorful. These birds aren't just pretty, they are very unusual, and you won't see them every day. These are the kinds you'll probably only ever get to see in photos.
1. Nicobar Pigeon
This enchanting bird is a from the Nicobar Islands, Malay Archipelago to the Solomons and Palau. Aside from its look, this bird is hunted mainly for their gizzard stone which is used in making jewelry. They are also hunted as pets and sold on trade markets. This bird is considered by IUCN as near threatened.
2.Formosan Magpie/Taiwan Blue Magpie
This bird is endemic to Taiwan and also the National Bird of the country. Although rare, these birds are unafraid of people. They are omnivores and known to be monogamous.
3.Tufted Coquette Hummingbird
This is a tiny species of hummingbirds that weighs about for only 2.3 grams. They can be mistaken as large bees as they feed on flowers nectars. The picture above is a male Tufted Coquette, males are known for their striking appearance because of their head crest.
4.Lady Amherst's pheasant
This bird is named after Sarah Countess Amherst, the wife of the Governor of Bengal. She is responsible for bringing this pheasant to London. This birds can fly but prefers to run. Even they appear very colorful and bright, they are rarely seen in forests.
5. Toco Toucan
Has beautiful plumage, but the most noticeable feature is its large bill that composes almost 30-40% of its entire body.
6.Kingfisher
This bird is well known for its ability to hunt fishes thus the name implies. Though it is an uncommon sight, this bird is considered as a cosmopolitan species or it is distributed all around the globe.
7.Sword-Billed Hummingbird
This hummingbird has its bill and tongue longer that its whole body.
8. Hoopoe
The national bird of Israel. Some of its species, Saint Helena Hoopoe is extinct. This bird is striking and very beautiful looking.This bird can be found in Eurasia. Known to be monogamous and very territorial.
9.Crested Coua
This bird is endemic to the forests and savannahs of Madagascar. Very attractive birds due to striking color and appearance. This bird eats chameleons.
10. Resplendent Quetzal
This beautiful bird is the National Bird of Guatemala, it has an image on their flag, coat of arms and the national currency named after them.
This bird on early ages was considered as the God of Air during pre-Columbian civilization. It also symbolizes freedom and wealth. In traditional Guatemalan culture, it is a sin to kill a Quetzal. It is also associated with the Mesoamerican deity, Quetzalcoatl the feathered serpent.
11. Luzon Bleeding-Heart Pigeons
This extremely rare bird species gets its name from the bright red-colored feathers from their chest. There are 7 known species of this birds and 5 are in the Philippines, one of the most popular is one from the island of Luzon.
They are terrestrial doves and difficult to observe. They are classified as Critically endangered by IUCN and Birdlife International.
12. Wilson's Bird of Paradise
This bird is endemic to Indonesia. This bird is considered as Near Threatened species by IUCN.
This bird has a very stunning, unique appearance. The plumage has different bright colors of blue, green, yellow and violet curled tails.
13. Flamecrest
This small yellow and orange colored birds are endemic in Taiwan. This bird is known for its fine, high-pitched voice.
14. Philippine Eagle
This large, regal-looking eagle is endemic to the Philippines. It preys on huge animals such as monkeys, snakes, monitor lizards and others. This bird is critically endangered and it is Philippines' National bird.
Due to its appearance, huge wingspan, preying ability and great flying it is often called Haribon(Haring-Ibon) which means King Bird.
15. Himalayan Monal
How could this bird not demand attention with its rainbow plumage? This bird belongs to the pheasant family. The photo above is a male Monal. The female are commonly dull in color. This bird is the national bird of Nepal.
