These Women Met On Tinder And Found Love And New Life—Literally
This lucky couple matched on more than just Tinder.
Finding love online can be incredibly difficult.
When you're living with a life-threatening illness, like Stony Brook University student Alana Duran, wading through the right and left swipes can feel trivial. Thanks to Tinder, she eventually met her match in Lori Interlicchio. After a few months of dating, the young women discovered that they matched in a much more important way than they'd initially thought. Their heartwarming love story shows what true love looks like.
Alana Duran and Lori Interlicchio are a Tinder success story unlike any you've ever heard.
By the time Interlicchio (left) and Duran (right) met on Tinder in 2015, Duran had experienced quite a few health scares as a result of being diagnosed with lupus at the age of 12. According to a Facebook post, Duran had undergone a hip replacement, experienced congestive heart failure, a pacemaker implant, kidney failure and ultimately went on dialysis. She had been patiently awaiting a kidney transplant since 2011.
A few months into their relationship, Interlicchio surprised Duran with a life-changing gift
"I learned we shared a blood type and decided to get tested," Interlicchio told BuzzFeed News. She secretly got a battery of tests done to confirm that she was the ideal donor for Duran, who has no relatives who are considered successful matches.
Interlicchio created a thoughtful care package to tell Duran that she was a match.
In a video posted to Facebook, Duran sorts through a handful of special gifts, including her favorite candy and study supplies. At the bottom of the box is a larger version of the Tinder match screen that her girlfriend created in order to let her know that she was a match.
Interlicchio and Duran had the transplant surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital in February.
FOX 5 NY reports that Duran is now off of dialysis and both women are healthy. They sealed their bond through a huge sacrifice and now have matching scars to show for it.
