15 Awful Fashion Trends That Made 2000s Teens Crazy Excited
What were we thinking?
1. Denim on denim

Who would ever forget Britney and JT’s matching denim outfits? Iconic!
2. Bedazzled clothing

Embellishments were all the rage in the early 2000s. From headbands to jeans, purses to shoes, tank tops to belts... it was the new millennium's way of making everyday things stylish.
3. Flare jeans

The basics. Every 2000s teenager had a pair.
4. Chunky highlights

Bonus points if you parted your hair in a zigzag.
5. Re-purposed dad ties

Some wore them as belts, some as headbands, and a handful even wore them rightfully around the neck, albeit undone (aka Avril style).
6. Bandana top

The cool kids wrapped them around the head; the bolder ones wore them as a top.
7. Low-rise jeans

How low can you go? I'm pretty sure they had to develop special underwear when these jeans were in.
8. And the male version:

Step 1. Pull pants up just below your butt cheeks.
Step 2. Buckle belt tight enough to hold the pants, but just loose enough so you can still walk.
Step 3. Walk like a duck and pray to the heavens the belt will do its job.
One wrong move, and flash!
9. Meshes, see-throughs, and fishnets

You begged your mom to let you wear these! And if you got a "yes," you tried to get her to buy you a funky bra as well.
10. Metallics

The colors of the new millennium! They were wardrobe must-haves.
11. Kitten heels + jelly flip flops

Every sorority girl at my college owned a pair.
12. Velour tracksuits

These are still alive and well. Tagging all the awesome moms out there!
13. Layering

Because one tank top just ain't enough.
14. Dress over jeans

This screams girl power! Uber chic!
15. And when you couldn't decide what to go for that day, you just put them all together!

2000s everything!
