Your Favorite Video Game Is Getting A Sequel With 3 Awesome New Characters
Spoiler alert: One of them is Superman's blood relation!
"Injustice: Gods Among Us" came out in 2013 to great reviews from both video gamers and comic book fans. The game pitted DC heroes and villains against each other in an alternate reality where Superman becomes High Councillor, and uses any means necessary to keep power. Batman and his insurgency fight to take down the tyrannical Superman by bringing alternate versions of the characters in from another universe. The newly announced "Injustice 2" will pick up after the events of the first game, as Batman and the insurgency attempt to put the world back together and Superman and his allies attempt to take back power. In addition to some awesome gameplay and an epic story, the new game is bringing in at least three new characters.
Supergirl
Supergirl is easily the biggest name of the three confirmed additions to the game. She's the only one we see in the first trailer, in which she takes out her cousin, Superman. Kara Zor-El clearly isn't teamed up with her High Councillor cousin in this story, and we're pumped to see the character stretch her cape a little bit in this game. It's much darker, and most welcome, take on Supergirl than the CBS/CW TV show.
Gorilla Grodd
Those familiar with the Berlanti-verse will be pumped about this one. Gorilla Grodd has been part of "The Flash" world since season one. The character is a super smart, super strong, telepathic gorilla. Bringing him to the game will be truly awesome, because in him, we'll get a brutal physical fighter (he's a massive gorilla, after all) as well as some pretty badass telepathic attacks. Plus, who doesn't want to fight as a super-strong gorilla?
Atrocitus
Probably the least well-known of the three additions, Atrocitus is the leader of the Red Lantern Corps. The character's been around for only 10 years in comics continuity. Atrocitus is the leader of the Red Lantern Corps and will probably play into the threat to Earth's existence referenced in the press release for "Injustice 2."
Other characters...?
The first game had an incredibly impressive cast of characters. While the three characters above are the only ones officially announced so far, it would be surprising if they didn't add a few more to the roster at some point. We'll probably get more news about the game coming out of E3 in mid-June. The first "Injustice" introduced a bunch of new characters in later releases, so even if your favorite character doesn't appear in "Injustice 2" right off the bat, it's possible we'll see her or him eventually.
