How To Get Away With Wearing Lingerie As An Outfit All Summer Long
Undergarments are the most underrated accessory in your closet.
Summer is the ultimate time to experiment with fashion. There's something about warm, sunny weather that makes you not give a fuck about taking risks in the style department. Luckily, summer 2016 fashion is here to remind us of the risks we should be taking. Between sexy one-piece bathing suits and badass bodysuits flooding store racks, celebrities are now pulling one thing out of their closet that's usually reserved for the bedroom—lingerie.
People always say that a good outfit starts with wearing pretty lingerie underneath. But if you're as single as me, what fun is that if no one besides you gets to see it? Answer: none—which is exactly why you should break out the lingerie and flaunt it. No matter your style or body type, there are several ways to wear lingerie as an outfit and look like a kween.
1. Rock those bralettes
Bralettes are the new crop tops, ladies. While they used to be taboo worn on their own, they're now being worn with just about anything. For a flirty daytime look, try rocking a bralette with a denim skirt or shorts. For a sophisticated evening look, wear one with some dressy slacks, or a long high-waisted skirt (like Zendaya's bomb ass red carpet look).
Bralettes also look cool thrown under a jacket, which is a signature Kendall Jenner look. Pair it with a choker and layered necklace for an extra style boost.
Another fun thing to do with a bralette is to wear one under a plunging V-neckline so it peeks through. Here, Kesha pairs a matching black bralette with her dress, which makes it look like a cutout/added detail to her already awesome outfit.
2. Experiment with the athleisure trend
Athleisure is one of spring 2016's hottest trends. Between tracksuits, sweats and sports bras, the casual look puts a chic spin on athletic wear. Speaking of sports bras, they're more fashionable than ever and look great thrown under a track jacket or hoodie.
You can also add a pop of color by throwing on a neon sports bra under a black hoodie. Or, go for one that has strappy detailing and wear it on its own.
3. Break out that slip dress
In case you haven't heard, the '90s are in, which means it's totally acceptable to rock a satin slip dress as a cute, casual daytime outfit or a sultry evening look. Selena Gomez has been leading the slip dress trend, and shows just how stylish it looks when you strut your satin PJs out of the house. Whether you go for a long dress like Selly, or a short, casual one that can be worn as a top, this lingerie-inspired look is one of the best trends RN.
4. Go for lingerie-inspired bodysuits
Bodysuits and one piece swimsuits are all the rage right now, just ask Bella Hadid. While there's so many different styles from plunging necklines, to frilly, detailed designs, you should totally make sure to try out one with some heavy lingerie inspo. Go for a lace bodysuit and pair it with a chic, lightweight jacket, or wear it on its own with a high-waisted skirt. Another thing to try out is a corset-inspired bodysuit, like Bella's in the picture above. The sexy daytime look is dressed down with denim and looks stellar.
5. Show off your lingerie by wearing it outside your shirt
KJ is the queen of wearing lingerie outside of her clothes, and proves all you need to do so is a plain white tee. In the first pic, she wears a lace bralette over the white shirt and accessorizes it with a spring jacket. In the second pic, she throws on a short slip dress over the tee and makes it an awesome going out outfit, proving what we knew all along—lingerie deserves to be seen.
So go ahead and break out those frilly bras and bandeaus that you never get to show off, because 2016 is all about bringing your unmentionables out of the lingerie drawer and into the light of day!
