This Badass Teen Showed Us What It's Like To Have An Invisible Illness In One Powerful Photo
The body positivity movement shouldn't just be limited to discussions of weight.
There is no shortage of body positivity buzz on social media and elsewhere these days.
Whether it's celebrities like Amy Schumer, dreamy TV actors, or our very own Dose writers, stories abound about accepting your body and loving yourself no matter what criticism you may get.
But AImee Rouski noticed that there hasn't been nearly as much buzz about invisible disabilities and illnesses (mental or otherwise) and she decided to change that.
She shared photos revealing her invisible illness (Crohn's Disease) that she has lived with and battled with a major surgical procedure.
"I've always been okay with the stuff that has happened to me, but some people have real difficulties accepting these things so I just want to say this."
As Aimee said "Your illness is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about" and she is kickstarting the very necessary recognition of invisible illnesses as part of the body positivity conversation.
Her post has received an outpouring of support from others diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and hundreds of others praising her bravery for breaching such a personal topic.
