The First Weed-Friendly Gym Will Pair Your Runner's High With A Real One, Too
Rip before getting ripped.
Power Plant Fitness wants to help you make your high into a productive workout
The San Francisco-based company will open the first weed-friendly gym in the fall of 2016.
"It won't be a place to get high and just screw around," says co-founder Jim McAlpine (who also founded the 420 Games—an olympic-style event for stoners)
TechInsider reported that the gym will offer a "cannabis performance assessment" to help users determine how to factor weed into their workout (before or after, vaped or ingested, etc.)
The company also plans to offer their own line of edibles tailored to the needs of athletes pre- and post-workout.
Eventually, they would also like to offer a designated balcony for those who would like to smoke before their workout.
Former NFL running back, Ricky Williams, is also a co-founder of Power Plant Fitness and will serve as the gym's spokesperson.
Ricky was the 5th overall pick in the 1999 draft for the New Orleans Saints, but his successful NFL career was delayed multiple times for marijuana use.
Together, Williams and McAlpine hope they can de-stigmatize marijuana use for athletes and combat stereotypes of laziness.
And it may just be that marijuana is the boost you need to get a little more out of your workout, after all.
Many elite athletes have endorsed marijuana as an effective workout aid and the American Journal of Medicine recently published a study noting that marijuana users are less likely to be obese, have a lower risk for diabetes and a lower BMI thanks to a higher rate of carbohydrate metabolism.
