This Chinese Detergent Ad Is A Truly Dirty Glorification Of Racism
In case you thought racism was strictly a Western problem...
A recent advertisement for Chinese laundry detergent brand Qiaobi is getting worldwide attention for all the wrong reasons
The ad opens on a paint-splattered African-American man who is deceptively pushed into a washing machine by a Chinese woman doing her laundry
When the washing cycle is complete, out pops a shiny-looking Chinese man
There's not much else to it. Just blatantly revolting racism
One Weibo user said she saw the ad in a Chinese theater mid-May, and it also said to be circulating on Chinese television stations.
Many are also claiming that it is a direct rip-off of a similar Italian ad from 2007
But no matter the source, both ads play on unfair stereotypes and promote the vile, biased kind of mindsets that need to be combated in the media rather than created into a convenient advertising trope
