8 Times Amy Schumer Shut Down Body Shamers And Made Us Say YASS
Kween Amy has no time for body shamers.
The haters gonna hate, but Amy Schumer has no time to deal with negativity—especially when it comes to her body. Schumer is one of the most vocal celebrities to talk about being body shamed, and she's always encouraging her fans not to listen to anyone who doesn't have anything nice to say.
Unfortunately, Amy has found herself victim to body shaming more than once—but each time, she retaliates with an epic response. Whether you're a size 0 or 16, body shaming is a real issue that most of us have experienced at at some point in our lives. So, to celebrate the fact that we should love our bodies just the way they are, here are eight times when Amy clapped back at her haters like a boss. #lifecoach
1. That time when she was swimsuit confident
When Amy shared a selfie of her and boyfriend Ben Hanisch on vacation, she was immediately inundated with hurtful comments about her weight. This inspired her to share a pic of herself rocking a one-piece bathing suit, just enjoying life and the ocean. "This is how I look. I feel happy. I think I look strong and healthy and also like miss trunchbull from Matilda," she wrote.
2. When she reminded everyone she's a size 6 and has "no plans of changing"
After a film critic called her "chubby" when referencing her movie "Trainwreck," Amy took to Twitter to let everyone know that she was happy with her size. Own it, girl!
3. When she put Glamour on blast for calling her plus size
Glamour released a special plus-size edition featuring model Ashley Graham on the cover. Amy was named among other plus-size women, including Melissa McCarthy and Adele. Amy assured her fans that there's nothing wrong with being plus-sized, but it doesn't create a healthy mindset for normal-sized women like Amy to be labeled as something they're not.
4. That time she defended her 160 pound weight in the best way possible
When accepting a Trailblazer award during the 2015 Glamour U.K. Women of the Year ceremony, Amy used her speech as an opportunity to talk about body standards for women, while also sharing her own weight.
"I'm probably, like, 160 pounds right now and I can catch a d**k whenever I want," she said. "Like, that's the truth. It's not a problem." Amen, sister.
5. That time she teamed up with Lena Dunham for a hilarious sketch on body shaming
This dream duo teamed up for a sketch called "Size 12" for "Inside Amy Schumer," which is extremely relatable for women who have struggled finding their size in a store. The clip totally hits home when Amy feels out of place looking for her size, which is definitely something we've all experienced.
6. When she got candid about appearance and double-standards for women
Amy expressed her opinion about appearance and double standards in an interview with Glamour: "Appearance has so little to do with where we should get our confidence from," she said. "But everywhere we turn we re told we re supposed to look this certain way. For women, we're taught to eat less until we disappear. And trained to believe that if you don't look like everyone else, then you're unlovable. Men are not trained that way. Men can look like whatever and still date a supermodel."
Yes, girl. This is such a huge problem in Hollywood and everyday life, and it's awesome she's calling it out with no BS.
7. When she reminded Hollywood she is "pretty enough"
A critic called Amy not pretty enough for "Trainwreck" and she found the irony in it.
"With Trainwreck coming out, I was like, everyone's going to say, 'She's not pretty enough to be in this movie.' And then only one dude wrote that, and people really attacked him, and then he retracted that and wanted to date me."
8. When she posed (practically) nude for the 2016 Pirelli calendar and reminded us that inner-confidence rules
Amy stripped down for the Pirelli calendar, which typically includes photos of professional models. Photographer Annie Leibovitz wanted to show 12 "strong but natural" women for the 2016 calendar, and Amy made the cut. After the shoot, the funny gal said "I looked more beautiful than I've ever felt in my life, and I felt like it looked like me." AMAZING.
