Assemble your tools
And your fresh, fruity supplies
Let's get grilling!
1. Make three holes in the bottom
The holes should be evenly spaced (or strategically placed if you have a lopsided melon). I used a corer which worked well, as long as you were gentle and didn't end up taking a giant chunk of the melon out with the skin.
2. Slice your watermelon
The bottom portion should be slightly larger than the top portion.
3. Use a melon baller to scoop fruit for your kebobs
4. Evenly carve out the rest
5. Push skewers through the edges to create the grill surface
Once the skewers are flush to the far side, feel free to trim off the excess.
6. Add some blackberry charcoal
In retrospect, I should have waited to place the final skewers before adding the berries, but I made it work.
7. Make the final touches
To create the base, you should trim your celery stalks the same length and push them into the holes you made in step 1. It may take some cutting and arranging to make everything sit nicely.
I also made the grill lid by poking the end of a skewer through the bottom of the small watermelon half and into a small celery curl to create a handle. I then "hung" it on the side with two skewer pieces propping it up from the inside.
If this doesn't win the prize for most creative display of food with food, I don't know what will
