Hope You Like Octopuses, Because They're About To Take Over
I, for one, welcome our octopus overlords.
The world is on the brink of something horrible and terrifying, and it's something we all need to be prepared for. While some creatures in the ocean are in trouble, fisheries are collapsing, coral reefs are dying, one class of animal is thriving. The cephalopod population, which include octopuses, squids and cuttlefish, is growing at an alarming rate, and no one is completely sure why...
Get used to seeing this dude (or dudette), because octopuses are going to be our rulers sooner rather than later.
A study published in Current Biology (which is not a pun about ocean currents, disappointingly) reports that many different species of cephalopods have increased their numbers in the last half century. The weirdest part of the whole thing is that scientists seem unsure why this is happening.
I think we all know what this means...
Octopuses are terrifying, they have way too much control than they should. This one literally decided he has had ENOUGH and just said peace out to his tank. If they can escape tanks, what is to stop them from climbing out of the ocean and taking over?
And sure...some octopuses are super cute!
Like, look at this adorable baby octopus just trying to get home. How adorable! Maybe being under the oppressive rule of an adorable animal like this wouldn't be so bad!
But others are TERRIFYING!
WHAT IS THIS MONSTER!? This one would definitely be the one that becomes the leader of the New Octopus Order.
Cute or terrifying, it doesn't really matter...the fact is soon all these tiny eggs will hatch and we'll be under their control.
