Disney Just Gave You A Reason To Literally Never Stop Watching Netflix
Bringing the Magic Kingdom straight to your living room.
Pop quiz: What do you get when you combine Netflix, the website sent to us by the gods of television and movies...
It's where we all go at the end of a day to get our "30 Rock" fix, to feel judged when it asks if we're still watching (of course we are) and to add hours to our lives.
...with Disney, the purveyor of magic and memorable characters that fueled our childhood imaginations?
Disney gives us unrealistic expectations of love, mental breaks from adulting and our best inspirations for some incredible cosplay.
Well, thanks to a new deal, you'll be able to get your princess fix on Netflix starting in September.
That's right: Netflix recently announced that the two media companies, which already control your everyday life, will become even more powerful. Starting in September, Netflix will be the exclusive pay TV home for the films from all of Disney's properties. That means Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm movies will all be on the streaming service.
The move isn't totally out of the blue. Netflix and Marvel have been working together for a while now.
Marvel has two original shows on Netflix right now, "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones," with at least four more planned.
Netflix hasn't yet announced the exact slate of movies that will be available, but there is certainly a wide range to pick from.
Pixar alone has 16 feature films, with five more planned for the next few years. We'll also hopefully be able to watch all of the "Star Wars" and "Avengers" films, which adds about another 20. Then, of course, there is Disney's back catalogue. I tried to count all the films in it, but I'm not sure if numbers actually go that high?
It's unclear if this partnership means more original Disney content on Netflix. Could the next Disney sequel be coming straight to Netflix? We'll see.
