What Happened When A Black Man Tried To Sell A Laptop Will Piss You Off
Josh survived, but many others have not.
On Friday, May 13, the son of Daily Beast Editor Goldie Taylor tried to sell his Macbook via Craigslist. Josh met up with a potential buyer, who turned out to be a decoy. During the transaction, Atlanta cops assaulted Josh, assuming he'd stolen the Macbook. Before they'd even confirmed their baseless suspicions, they placed Josh in handcuffs and pressed a weapon to his back.
After their assumptions turned out to be unfounded, the cops released Josh, but the harm was already done. Goldie took to Twitter to tell the world of her family's encounter with the police brutality so rampant in America today. She explains the whole story below.
When Josh met up with the "buyer" who'd agreed to purchase his MacBook, the sale quickly went south.
The police did not have a warrant for Josh's arrest, but they handcuffed him, anyway. And it gets worse.
Finally, the truth about the MacBook's ownership came to light.
Josh was deeply shaken by the events.
Goldie and Josh immediately jumped into action.
Josh called the company that owned the device the police used to scan his MacBook.
After the incident, Josh realized how close he'd come to being a statistic.
Goldie vowed that the people responsible for brutalizing and profiling her son would answer for their actions.
The scary reality is that Marina Stern is right. What about the many people who do not have the resources Goldie's family has at its fingertips?
To further prove her point, Goldie retweeted this video showing how police target America's black population.
