This FDA-Approved Product Could Prevent You From Ever Getting Wrinkles
This new invention just might be the secret to the fountain of youth.
Thanks to people afraid of looking old, the anti-aging industry is raking in billions of dollars a year. Considering the average beauty routine can cost hundreds, this statistic isn't exactly a shocker. Good news: A new medical innovation just might save you a ton of dough on creams and serums, while completely destroying the quest for eternal youth in the process.
Researchers at Harvard and M.I.T. engineered an invisible film that gives the skin a plump and youthful appearance. According to a study published in the journal Nature Materials, of the 170 subjects who tried the "second skin," no one experienced an allergic reaction. While all of the ingredients used to create the formula are considered safe by the FDA, researchers are unsure of when they'll have enough data to get their approval to actually market this miracle-worker. If it does get the green light, achieving the skin of your dreams is just a pump or two away.
This "second skin" promises to restore elasticity and make wrinkles disappear.
In initial tests, the film was found to be strong-yet-permeable. While It allows sunscreen and other liquids to pass through to the skin, it can't be removed with soap and water.
This miracle film may also help to treat medical skin conditions.
A less permeable version is being tested that will enable more effective treatments for skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis by sealing in prescribed creams into the affected area. Also in the works: a patch that moisturizes and soothes irritated skin.
The first step to applying the second skin is a polymer base, which is just a clear liquid without much strength.
The next step is to apply a different polymer which seals it to the skin. It can be removed using a solution the dissolves the polymer.
