WTF Is Mutton Busting And Why Can't We Stop Laughing?
Prepare to fall into a Google hole.
It's like bull riding-meets-'America's Funniest Home Videos'...but with sheep.
A former co-worker from Iowa recently told me about how she used to love going to the state fair to watch mutton busting.
"What is mutton busting?" I asked.
"Oh you know, it's when kids dress up like cowboys and ride sheep."
Uhhh....what.
Wikipedia defines mutton busting as "a rodeo event in which children ride or race sheep." Upon further Internet noodling, I learned that children rarely stay atop their mutton friends. In fact, images of the many ways in which they fall are amongst the best things ever found online. I haven't been able to Google anything else since Monday. Enjoy.
Oh look, a child riding a sheep like it's a horse! That's cool
Nice jazz costume, ya sassy little cowbaby
I guess mutton busting isn't every kid's favorite after-school activity
Some give it all they've got...
...and hang on for dear life
Some know when to embrace a graceful fall
But grace is not always an option
Sorry, bud
Owwwiieeee!
Like the Wicked Witch trapped under Dorothy's house...
...these kids know how to take a tumble. Someone give this girl a juice box
