This Super PAC is Asking White Dudes to Take a Step Back
Just...no, ok?
Let's face it, straight white dudes have had it pretty good in this country for a really long time, and it's probably time to share the wealth a little bit. That was the thinking of Jack Teter and Kyle Huelsman (two white dudes), so they founded the "Can You Not" PAC to empower women, people of color and LGBT folks to run for office and to "dis/empower and dis/incline people in positions of privilege, specifically straight white men, from ambitions of running for office in progressive urban districts."
Teter and Huelsman admit that the PAC started as a joke, but it eventually became real.
The pair noticed that men, and especially white men, are disproportionately likely to run for higher office.
While men make up only 49% of the population, 75% of those who run for office are men.
The Can You Not PAC is especially concerned about urban areas, where white men are often in the minority.
According to their website, the PAC wants "white dudes in urban districts to think hard about why they think they're the most qualified option to represent their communities."
The website also boasts a few success stories already, all curtsey of LLBean
No word just yet who the PAC will endorse, or (dis)endorse as they say. Dose has reached out for more information.
