Why OKCupid Is A Way Better Match For You Than Bumble And Tinder
It's time to say bye-bye to Bumble.
Are you tired of swiping?
I sure am. My thumbs, though exquisite and strong, are exhausted from doing more left-right, left-right-lefts than a bunch of marching Navy Seals. So I created an OKCupid profile. No, I'm not regressing in my dating app IQ—rather, I'm proving you weren't making a mistake when you downloaded this forgotten app in the first place.
I'd never used OKCupid before, but I knew it was more than just a few photos and quippy bylines, and that's what I need if I'm really going to meet my match. Once I created my OKCupid profile, I extinguished the Tinder flames, unhooked from Hinge and told Bumble to buzz off.
OKC does a lot more than show you the potential of a pretty face. Here are six reasons why you'll opt to find love in a hopeless place (the Internet) and seek guidance from the OG matchmaker (Cupid).
1. They use math to "make the ineffable totally eff-able."
2. It's personable and helpful in a non-creepy, non-annoying way.
Before you introduce yourself to someone, OKC introduces themselves to you. Within seconds of creating my account, I received a message from Alice, the Director of Customer Support. She greeted me, myself and I (re: single) and gave me tips and tricks on how to use the site. After that, she left me alone to get down to business. The business of love, that is.
3. OKCupid's arrow takes a stab at finding out who you are with a series of unique questions.
OKCupid gets dating down to the details, and they're more thorough than a TSA officer at JFK.
What's most comforting is that you can answer these questions in earnest because no one will see them but you. From cuddling preferences to political views to how often you brush your teeth, OKC asks well-rounded questions and calculates your compatibility with each of your matches.
4. You get way more information about a potential match than a few photos and short bio.
OKCupid saves A/S/L for those creepy AIM chatroom days. The more effort you put into your profile, the more likely you are to meet someone that likes you for you, not just because it looks like you went to Lollapalooza last year based on your photos.
5. You'll see more than who swiped right.
You see your visits, your likes and your messages. Maybe prince charming is a bit shy and he looked but didn't like? Maybe your dream girl liked but wanted you to message first? You get to see who creeped, and you get to return the favor if you so choose.
6. You'll keep your matches close, and your enemies closer.
Upon perusing the candidate pool, you'll see who's worth your time and who's not—the enemy percentage is a brilliant way to weed out the Trump supporters of the bunch.
Bottom line: It's time to free up some phone space.
If you think OKCupid is stuck in 2010, you couldn't be more wrong. In fact, it's the opposite. In the weird, wild world of online dating, OKC is the only app that gives you insight into someone's background, personality and habits, so when you take the plunge and decide to meet IRL, you're equipped with more than just a blurry selfie.
Go ahead and unmatch those other apps. You'll thank me later.
