Only One Person Dressed On Theme At The 2016 Met Gala
Themes matter, people!
Maybe it's the gay man in me, but when there is a theme in place for an event, you're supposed to follow it with vigilant enthusiasm. Apparently New York's elite don't feel the need to follow such rigid gay man standards, because at the 2016 Met Gala, almost no one dressed on theme.
Last year the theme was "China Through the Looking Glass" and you can bet that a bunch of white people showed up looking as culturally appropriative as ever.
YOU ARE THE WHITEST PERSON THERE, SARAH JESSICA PARKER!
This year's theme was "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology," which Zoe Saldana ignored with reckless abandon
As beautiful as this peacock confetti gown is, where's the tech flair?
I guess "technology" just means a silver jumpsuit, Julie Macklowe?
(Later in the night she was spotted wearing this with sneakers, so yeah, it is possible for this look to be worse than it already is.)
And sure, "Fashion in an Age of Technology" is a pretty vague theme that really just could mean "current fashion" since we're living in an age of technology...but put a little effort into it.
Luckily, there was one perfect human who put more than a little effort into it; Claire Danes, showing up looking like a damn Disney princess.
You're probably thinking, "But wait, that dress has nothing to do with technology..." And that is a reasonable thought to have, but you would also be VERY WRONG.
Zac Posen, the fairy godfather who created the stunning gown, revealed to everyone that the ballgown was actually the height of technology!
Zac Posen is gay, which only further supports my theory that gay men are the only ones who care about themes.
That's right! Claire Danes' dress was literally technological!
TBH, the gorgeous, light up dress basically put every other outfit at the gala to shame.
This is the type of fashion I want in our world of technology.
