This Iconic Juice Is Coming Back Just In Time For The 'Ghostbusters' Reboot
There's something strange in your neighborhood (grocery store)...
Just in time for the new "Ghostbusters" movie, Coca-Cola announced its popular Hi-C Ecto Cooler will return to shelves on May 30. The iconic 80s drink is very familiar to anyone who grew up sipping juice boxes after a hard day of fighting ghosts.
Originally released in 1987, the Ecto Cooler was supposed to be a short-lived promotional deal for "The Real Ghostbusters" cartoon series, but when the show ended in 1991, the drink was so popular that Hi-C kept on making it until 2001. The citrus-flavored drink will be available in both juice boxes and cans. Canned versions will turn to slime green when chilled, according to a release from parent company Coca-Cola.
Given this great news, maybe it's time we take a trip down memory lane and revisit more drinks we loved as kids...
1. Pepsi Blue
Even though this drink was well advertised by 90s Princess Britney Spears, the berry-flavored Pepsi mix was discontinued after just about two years on shelves because the sales were so low. What a buzzkill.
2. Squeezit
Chances are, you or someone you know had this juice in their lunchbox, right next to a Fruit by the Foot. Unfortunately, these icky sweet drinks were discontinued in 2001.
3. Surge
This Mountain Dew competitor was discontinued in 2001, but Coca-Cola answered consumer's cries and brought back the citrusy nectar in 2015, only available through Amazon.
4. Sprite Remix
Even though this was only on shelves from 2003 to 2005, it instantly became a cult classic. There's a Facebook page dedicated to all Sprite Remix news, including some users reporting that they've found the Tropical flavor in stores across the Southeast region of the United States.
5. Little Hug
Who could forget pulling one of these bad boys out of a cooler at a birthday party? Even though this drink is still available, it's gotten a bit of a makeover. The drinks are still in barrels, with straws and new flavors like berry blends and tropical mixes.
I wonder how good they would taste if they were made into a cocktail...
6. Nesquik
Yeah, you can still buy a ready-to-drink bottle of the chocolate milk from almost any grocery store, but nothing was better than making a glass yourself just like the commercials.
It was pretty disappointing when the Nesquik Bunny didn't just appear to help, though.
