This Little Girl's Odd But Adorable Birthday Wish Came True
This might actually be too cute to handle.
Lots of kids ask for a shopping cart full of toys, a litter of puppies or a pony for their birthdays.
Obviously, they're not always going to get these things. Actually, they're probably never going to get any of them. But that doesn't stop kids from dreaming big for their birthdays, as they should. A healthy imagination is important for a kid.
Every once in a while, though, you'll come across a child who just wants something incredibly simple and sweet for her birthday. That makes the special day just that much more special. This was the case for 3-year-old Brooklyn's birthday. She's a really sweet little girl.
Every Thursday morning, 3-year-old Brooklyn and her mother wait at the end of their driveway in Bloomington, Illinois.
What are they waiting for? The garbage man. Garbage day is Brooklyn's favorite day. It seems strange, I know, but there's a very sweet reason the little girl loves garbage day. The garbage man, who has since been identified as Delvar D., honks, smiles and waves to little Brooklyn and her mother every time he sees the pair on Thursday mornings. He's so charmed the pair that they go out of their way to see him on Thursdays. If they miss him when he comes by their house, they drive around the neighborhood looking for him just so they can exchange smiles and waves.
One particular Thursday was Brooklyn's birthday. For her special day, all she wanted to do was meet the friendly garbage man and give him a cupcake. She got her wish!
When the garbage man pulled up to the house, Brooklyn's mother motioned him to pull over. He got out of the truck and Brooklyn ran over to the truck to give him one of her special birthday cupcakes. He accepted it with glee and flashed one of his (now-famous) friendly smiles. What a good dude!
Meeting the garbage man made Brooklyn's day.
This whole encounter goes to show how a little bit of kindness goes a long way. Be friendly and smile to others, and you just might make someone's day. Hopefully this little girl carries forward the sweetness she's learned from her friendly neighborhood garbage man.
