You Wouldn't Stop Using Emojis, And This Is What You Got
You can't heart eyes everything.
No matter which phone or tablet you have (unless you're using my grandma's 2003 flip phone), you have emojis. They're seriously everywhere—in conversation, in social media, on television and even in your bed. We as a society are so obsessed, we've prompted Sony Pictures Animation to create an emoji-themed movie.
Yeah, we're not kidding. In 2017, a movie starring emojis will grace big screens across America.
As a society, we've become a little too obsessed with them. Even Oxford Dictionary declared 😂 the 2015 Word of the Year. Think about that: Something that isn't a word became the most influential "word" of the year. That speaks volumes.
So how much of an impact have emojis actually made?
First of all, "The Emoji Movie" is really a thing.
Sony confirmed at CinemaCon 2016 that the movie was a for-sure project. It will be set inside a smartphone. Spotify and other major apps partnered with Sony to create the film.
Emojis pervade the culture. They star in commercials targeted at today's youth.
From McDonald's to Dove, companies have made their own versions of emojis in an effort to seem young and hip.
They've inspired festive jewelry.
For just $35, you can be the proud owner of an emoji ring. Because who wouldn't want an 'Information Desk Person' perched proudly upon their finger?
Everyone, we really need to stop this obsession.
