15 Quotes Overheard On Public Transit As Motivational Posters
More inspiring than your Monday morning playlist.
Commuting makes me crabby.
l spend about two hours a day, five days a week, commuting to and from work on various forms of public transportation. That's 10 hours a week avoiding eye contact with strangers and aggressively elbowing my way into a cramped train car.
I typically travel with at least one book or magazine, and I always, always have my headphones. I'm in my own world amongst a slew of other zoned out travelers, and I've always liked it that way.
But one day a few weeks ago, tragedy struck. I had forgotten my headphones. Digging frantically through my bag, in the midst of a complete existential crisis, I heard this:
"Pack it in. We are all sardines - salty, but delicious."
I looked over and saw a man smiling as he pushed through the crowded subway car. I took out my phone and immediately tweeted the poetic metaphor.
For the next two weeks, I intentionally forgot my headphones and listened for other words of poetic wisdom. The results now live as motivational posters that I would definitely order on Etsy.
