Outspoken 'Prison Break' Actor Takes Down Site For Sharing This Body-Shaming Meme
"Like a dandelion up through the pavement, I persist."
Yesterday a hurtful, body-shaming meme aimed at "Prison Break" actor Wentworth Miller made the rounds, thanks to U.K.-based men's humor site The LAD Bible.
The side-by-side image shows Miller in a promotional photo for "Prison Break," which was shot from 2005-2009, along with a more recent paparazzi image.
The 43-year-old actor caught wind of the meme and bravely shared his weight gain was the result of an intense period of depression that started in 2010.
Suffering from depression and suicidal ideation is something Miller battled since childhood, so he took the moment to share his story and encourage others struggling to reach out for help.
Miller's emotional post received loads of positive responses from both fans and organizations like To Write Love on Her Arms, which helps those struggling with addiction, depression and self-injury.
Miller's openness is incredibly important for men who are experiencing depression, as they are much less likely to seek help for mental health issues than women, according to the American Psychological Association. Symptoms of depression are also very different and men are more likely to self-medicate.
The LAD Bible has taken down the original post and issued an apology on their Facebook page.
