6 PSAs That Are Way Funnier Than The Message They're Sending
Sometimes it takes laughter to point out a serious problem.
1. Colon Cancer: "Keep Farts Funny"
Meredith's Miracles Colon Cancer Foundation created this comical ad to raise awareness about the power of early detection. Colon cancer has become the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S. MMCCF provides financial assistance to young adults battling colon cancer and provides education about prevention and warning signs.
2. Father Involvement: "Cheerleader"
Watching this dad do a cheer routine for The National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse is pretty funny, but the message comes from harsh statistics. Studies show only 71 percent of fathers who live with their children share a meal with their kids on a daily basis and only 63 percent of resident fathers talk to their kids at least once a day.
3. Suicide Prevention: "Man Therapy"
Working men ages 25-54 account for the largest number of suicides in the U.S. These men are also the least likely group to receive support after an attempt. Man Therapy is an organization that takes a humorous approach to talking about mental health for men who ordinarily wouldn't seek help.
4. STI Prevention: "VD Is For Everybody"
The Ad Council used a bizarre jingle for this campaign, which first launched in 1969. It's a little outdated, but actually helped people have honest conversations about sexual health.
5. Obesity: "Double Chin"
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services works to promote healthier lifestyles and created a series of commercials where "unwanted" body parts are found in public places.
6. Gun Safety: "Playthings"
16,000 people are killed every year in preventable gun-related incidents. Gun safety organization Evolve USA released this ad to show that if kids can reach something, they're going to try to play with it. So parents should lock up their guns and....other things.
