Guy Gets Part Of His Leg Removed Literally Just To See What It Tastes Like
Fun fact: sometimes cannibals refer to human meat as "long pork."
Have you ever wondered what human flesh tastes like?
You're not alone. Greg Foot from science-themed YouTube channel Brit Lab was curious as well, and set out to see what human meat tastes like. And who better to taste than himself?
The process for extracting the muscle is very gruesome.
It's kind of amazing that a doctor would agree to do this. My hat is off to Foot though for putting himself through so much pain in the name of science.
BRB, have to go vomit.
This is what the thigh meat looks like immediately after extraction.
Doesn't it look delicious? Just grab yourself some fava beans and a glass of Chianti and have yourself a tasty meal.
Foot takes the meat to a scientist, who cooks it and analyzes it for similarities to other popular meats.
Unfortunately, Foot never actually eats the meat, because cannibalism—even if you just plan to eat yourself—is illegal. I know, I found this very disappointing as well. At the end of the episode, Foot makes a burger out of a combination of meats determined to be most similar to human meat and he eats that, but it's just not the same as actually watching someone eat himself.
So I had to do a bit of my own research, and apparently human meat tastes like some combination of these four animals.
Peter Bryan, a cannibal and murderer from the UK, once described human brains as tasting like chicken. Norwegian art student Alexander Selvik Wengshoel, who managed to eat some of the meat off his hip after it was removed during surgery, described the meat as having a similar taste and consistency to lamb. Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who ate the organs, biceps and thighs of his victims thought they tasted like filet mignon. Armin Meiwes, a famous cannibal from Germany who killed and ate a willing man, described the meat as tasting slightly tougher than pork.
Yes, these details are grizzly, but between Brit Lab and famous anecdotes of cannibals, we have a satisfactory answer to the question. The only better sense you could get for what people meat tastes like would be to try it yourself.
What do you think? Would you try eating human flesh if you had the opportunity?
I can't say I would, but to each his own.
