7 Hilariously Outdated Websites That Will Send You Right Back To 2005
Remember when your teachers told you to never put embarrassing stuff online because the Internet lives forever? They definitely weren't lying.
In a fit of mid-week boredom, I casually stumbled upon a reddit post that linked to Brendan Fraser's website, which hasn't been updated since 2005-ish.
I mean, seriously - Flash 7 is required for his site and we're on Flash 21.0.0.197 now.
Once inside the site, I was greeted by this selfie from Mr. Fraser himself.
His latest announcement points to a Hurricane Katrina photo exhibit he helped curate.
I then clicked on "curiosities" because I was curious why his website hadn't been updated in so long.
I can't make this up, people. He even greets visitors as "Netizens." *cringe*
I didn't even find my answer.
Inspired by this gem, I decided to go deep into the Internet to mine for other old-ass websites.
And boy oh boy, did I strike gold! Get ready for all-white backgrounds and clip art galore!
1. CNN's O.J. Simpson Case Coverage
But seriously, that EVIDENCE clip art.
2. 'You've Got Mail' (1998) Promotional Website
This hip website definitely moved the needle on the marketing campaign.
3. 'The Nanny' Homepage
"This site is run non-profit for fans of the Fran Drescher television show..."
There's a lot to unpack there.
4. The Dole/Kemp '96 Campaign
I think the highlight of this site is not the campaign issues, but Elizabeth Dole's pecan cookie recipe.
5. 'Space Jam' (1996) Promotional Website
I mean, there's a link to purchase a cassette copy of the movie's soundtrack. I think the best part is the NBA stats of all of the pro players in the film.
6. The Washington Post's 1996 Year in Review
1996 was a great year for Internet, it seems. Highlights include coverage of the dance craze "The Macarena," which was released in the U.S. in 1995.
There's even a Christmas remix of the song, if you're into that sort of thing (I am).
