This Infamous 90s Sports Scandal Is Finally Becoming A Movie
The ultimate 90s catfight is coming to the big screen.
1994's ultimate figure skating showdown is finally set to become a movie.
Known as the "whack heard round the world," the infamous scandal featured the unforgettable rivalry between Olympic figure skaters Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. The movie adaptation is tentatively titled "I, Tonya."
Let's recap: One month before the '94 Winter Olympics and just weeks before a qualifying event, figure skater Nancy Kerrigan was attacked by a group of men who tried to break her legs with a metal baton.
The attack was allegedly orchestrated by Harding, whose ex-husband and bodyguard confessed to hiring a man to attack Kerrigan. The attacker followed her from Massachusetts to Detroit, where she was assaulted post-training. Kerrigan was left badly bruised and unable to compete in the qualifying rounds, but still made the Olympic team. She took home the silver medal while Harding, whose career and marriage were crumbling as the world watched, took home 8th place.
Margot Robbie, who stars in "The Wolf of Wall Street" and upcoming blockbuster "Suicide Squad," will play Tonya Harding.
After continually denying her involvement, Harding later pled guilty to "conspiring to hinder prosecution in the attack" and was later banned for life by the U.S. Figure Skating Association.
No one has been cast to play Nancy Kerrigan yet.
But entertainment sites are suggesting that everyone from Star Wars' Daisy Ridley to Kristen Stewart would be perfect for the role.
Though I think Cecily Strong and Anne Hathaway should have a baby and she should play Kerrigan.
They share the perfect amount of doe-eyed innocence to pull off the role.
Will Robbie be able to master Tonya Harding's unforgettable ugly cry? We'll have to wait and see.
