This New Wearable Device Combines Fashion And Tech in an Incredible Way
This timeless fashion icon is creating something amazing.
This is Iris Apfel. She's a 94-year-old fashion icon known for her impressive collection of vintage finds and over-the-top jewelry.
Apfel has had a successful career as an interior designer, business woman and cultural icon in the fashion industry. Now, she's breaking into the wearable technology industry.
You might be thinking, "What could a nonagenarian possibly know about wearable tech?" But Iris has a unique take on how this thriving industry can work for her generation.
She teamed up with WiseWear, a company dedicated to creating "innovative smart accessories that seamlessly blend breakthrough technology with style," to create a series of three bracelets for their Socialite collection.
Similar to other wearables, the bracelets will allow users to track calories and check their calendars, but they'll also include an extremely useful safety measure.
Users will be able to send "a discreet text message to your pre-approved list of contacts, notifying them of your exact location." This is great for the elderly or people with disabilities, since they'll be able to quickly and easily get help in case of an emergency.
"This is not just technology that's useful for the elderly—there are a lot of young people that can benefit as well," Apfel told WiseWear. "Something like this can alert those who care about me if I take a flop because falling can be very dangerous, particularly when you get old in age."
The bracelets come in palladium, rose gold and gold and will range in price from $295-$345. Check 'em out at WiseWear.
