This #GirlBoss Is A Brilliant 105-Year-Old Painter And We Can't Get Enough
This OG #girlboss is showing us all that it's never too late to pick up a new skill. Born in a time when most Aboriginal people weren't taught to write or read, Loongkoonan took to the bush with her grandparent for long walks to learn about nature and their culture. As the oldest native speaker of the endangered Nyikina language, Loongkoonan is breaking barriers with her art and quickly picking up fans.
Starting at 90 years old, Aboriginal artist Loongkoonan started painting as a way to keep busy.
We admire a #girlboss that has hustle and passion. Plus, we've dying to know where she got her floral kicks from, too.
Using her knowledge of the Australian countryside, Loongkoonan paints her memories using dots, a traditional Aboriginal art technique.
We could stare at this one for hours.
With more than 380 pieces, each one is delicate, beautiful and intricate.
The patience that she has is astounding. We're still trying to master liquid eyeliner.
True to real #girlboss form, Loongkoonan is opening exhibits in the Biennial of Adelaide and the Australian Embassy in Washington D.C.
But really, mesmerized.
According to Indigenart-Mossenson Galleries owner Diane Mossenson, "Loongkoonan's message is one of handwork, resilience, endeavour and energy."
Can we get this as a throw pillow or mantle piece? Our house guests need to know about her brilliance.
