'Friends' Is Getting An Unauthorized Musical, And OH. MY. GOD.
So no one told you life was gonna be sung this way... 🎤
Dreams will come true for "Friends" fans in Chicago this summer, when the unauthorized musical parody of the TV show, "Friends: The One Where They Sing," opens.
YUP, it's happening -- a "Friends" musical!
The 90-minute show, based on the first season of "Friends," opens at MCL Chicago on June 10 and runs until July 29.
Better yet, the theater is BYOB, and the audience can take a "Friends" drinking game during the show, according to the musical's website.
Director Eli Golden says we can expect the show to include fan-favorite people and things like Janice, Marcel the monkey and of course, Smelly Cat.
Golden, a self-proclaimed fan of musicals, says "this is a musical for fans by the fans, both of "Friends" and musicals in general.”
Here's a little sneak peek at what's to come in a very enthusiastic 15-second table reading.
A version of the musical debuted during Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival, and because of the positive response, Golden decided to finish the project entirely - including the original score, the script and the choreography.
“Between the cast, the band, and production team, we have stacked this show with funny and talented people, and that atmosphere is infectious," Golden said.
"I started writing this musical roughly three years ago and have had the songs stuck in my head ever since," he told BuzzFeed.
Since the "Friends" reunion isn't happening *cue tiny violin*, the musical is definitely the next best thing and obviously, WE CAN'T WAIT.
