What Album Would You Rate A Perfect 10? Here Are Some That Made The Cut
In a recent AskReddit Thread, user Jamesinglea asked of the community, "What album would you rate 10/10?" Many of the answers seem like obvious choices while others don't. You may just discover your new favorite album in this list.
One of the most famous albums of all time, and perhaps Pink Floyd's greatest accomplishment.
Released in 1973, "The Dark Side of the Moon" is one of the 25 greatest selling albums of all time in the US, and has had over 900 consecutive weeks on the Billboard chart.
"Time," one of the most famous tracks from the album, exemplifies the concept and mix of echo, ambience, musicality and noise on the album.
Pearl Jam's first studio album might be their best
"Ten" was released in 1991, right at the start of the grunge craze that would soon sweep the nation.
The album is full of iconic songs, like "Jeremy"
"Ten" also features the massively successful songs "Alive" and "Even Flow." While many people thought Pearl Jam were simply following the herd of bands capitalizing on the grunge movement, Pearl Jam is credited today with helping to popularize alt rock.
This album was originally deemed "uncommercial" and was projected to sell very poorly.
However, the album debuted on the Billboard 200 at number 21, and has achieved triple platinum certification in the United Kingdom. It also received numerous perfect reviews from major music magazines.
"Karma Police" is perhaps the best known track off the album.
Seriously, this album is artistically brilliant, and you should really listen to it start to finish.
Maybe a Tool album seems like an unexpected choice.
"Lateralus" is actually one of the most complex and listenable albums of any genre. It features numerous "odd" time signatures rarely used in rock music, and is almost akin to a contemporary symphony in some senses.
Here's the full album.
Strap in - at 79 minutes, it's a long one.
All three of these albums are absolutely incredible.
In my opinion though, the best album from one these three artists isn't included on the list. It's 2015's "To Pimp A Butterfly" by Kendrick Lamar.
"King Kunta" is one of the "hits" from the album, but the whole thing is pure genius - blending modern hip hop with jazz, funk and old school R&B influences. It's a must-hear.
Like "To Pimp A Butterfly," this album is a rap masterpiece.
"Illmatic" is a serious artistic tour-de-force.
The album is concerned with the subject of artistic authenticity, and like Lamar's album, is an ideal blend of hip hop, R&B and funk influences.
Arguably one of the most influential punk albums of all time.
Green Day has perhaps become a bit watered down over time, but the band still had a lot of edge when they released their first album on a major label.
It's an album full of punk hits, with "Longview" being one of the most memorable from my childhood.
If you're not terribly familiar with David Bowie, listening to this album is a great way to get acquainted with the artist.
This is not only one of the most iconic songs off the album, but very likely is one of the best songs of all time.
This album basically transformed style and culture all over the world when it was released in 1991.
The album features the anthem "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and numerous other iconic grunge tracks.
Another one of the most influential albums of all time.
This Grammy-winning album is arguably Fleetwood Mac's best.
Not only is it musically amazing, but it's mythical in the personal stories that led to its production: prior to the album's release, the McVies, two married members of the band, divorced after six years of marriage. Drummer Mick Fleetwood's wife had an affair with his best friend. Perhaps most famously, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham had a tumultuous on-again-off-again relationship that led to great emotional tension.
Despite all this, the band was still able to produce one of the greatest albums rock history has ever seen.
This basically goes without saying.
The album is full of hits. Take your pick.
This was one of the first albums I ever listened to obsessively.
The title track is only the beginning of its greatness.
There are surprisingly few Michael Jackson albums listed, but this one is fantastic.
Not too sure about the Usher album though.
Plus, the music video is just so great.
As with any great albums list, there are too many Beatles albums listed to name.
Which one is your favorite?
