There's A Tropical Paradise Hidden In A Converted Airplane Hangar
A water park the size of eight football fields? Don't mind if I do.
40 miles south of Berlin lies an enormous airplane hangar.
So enormous in fact, it could house the Statue of Liberty standing upright, the Eiffel Tower laying on its side and eight entire football fields. That's 1,200 feet long, 680 feet wide and 350 feet tall, to be exact.
But inside, the only aircraft are hot air balloons that offer rides 200 feet above a tropical wonderland.
In 2004 this airplane hangar was converted to Tropical Islands, Europe's largest indoor waterpark.
Inside there are three large pools that hold an unbelievable 1,849,204 gallons of water at a balmy 82 degrees.
There are no less than six restaurants and six additional lounges and bars within the dome serving food and beverages from around the world.
And the buildings throughout the dome are modeled in styles from tropical locations including Malaysia, Bali, Thailand and Polynesia
And for older guests, Tropical Islands offers numerous hot tubs, saunas and a myriad of relaxing spa services.
Kid-friendly activities abound from waterslides and bumper boats to sandy beaches and a designated "Kids Club"
The overnight accommodation ranges from modern rooms overlooking the park's rainforest
To adventurous tent or Teepee lodging.
