Paid Period Leave is Now a Thing, Which Means Feminism Finally Wins
Not having to come in during the worst days each month? How do we sign up to work there??
Periods are the worst, but a UK-based nonprofit is hoping to make things a little better for employees - by offering paid period leave.
By offering all of their female employees the paid menstrual leave each month, the Bristol company Coexist hopes to change the stigma around the phrase “women’s issues.”
Company Director Bex Baxter wants a policy in place that encourages her employees to take the time to let their body recuperate without putting the pain “under the label of illness.”
Baxter currently has 31 employees and only 7 of which are male, who enthusiastically agree that their female counterparts deserve the time to stay at home and rest.
Baxter and her team plan to collaborate to form the policy and attend a seminar where they break down anything taboo about period talk.
In the meantime, we’re still waiting for a policy like that to be passed universally.
