Love on the brain? Study shows love really does change your brain's functionality.

Being in love makes you do some crazy things, that much we know. But according to a new study published by Southwest University in China, we can blame our brain chemistry for some crazy changes when we're in love.

To read the study yourself (get ready for some seriously scientific language and a good amount of acronyms) head on over here.

The study took MRI brain scans of 100 people (divided into three categories: in a relationship, recently ended a relationship and never been in love) while looking at pictures of their partners.

Results showed that brains in love had increased activity in 12 different areas of the brain all correlated positively with the length of time in love.

From left to right, the brains shown are those in the single group, the recently ended love group and the currently in love group.

Increased activity was noted in parts of the brain controlling motivation, reward, social cognition and emotional regulation.

So we've learned the longer you're in love, the more your brain changes to make you a more well-rounded better person, so it turns out your lover really can bring out the best in you, after all.
